What is RSS?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and makes it easy to find and read new information on Web sites with this feature. Essentially, a link to and summary of new Web content is sent directly to you as an "RSS feed."
Subscribing to one or more Transportation Department RSS feeds allows you to view links to new, topic-specific information in one place rather than having to check or search multiple Web pages. <More>

How do I subscribe to, view and use RSS feeds?
Depending on personal preference, RSS feeds can be viewed in a Web browser toolbar as a "live bookmark" (e.g., Firefox, Internet Explorer 7) or a news reader (e.g., Google Reader, My Yahoo!, NewsGator). There are many other free, web-based RSS readers, also known as "feed aggregators," that can be used to subscribe to, view and manage RSS feeds. Scroll down for a step-by-step guide to subscribing to RSS feeds.

More about RSS
Many Web sites offer RSS feeds, usually labeled with an orange RSS feed icon , for Web pages frequently updated. Overall, RSS subscriptions allow you to quickly and efficiently access information of interest, in one place, from multiple Web sites and at your convenience. RSS readers are updated automatically with links to the new Web content.
Step-by-step guide to subscribing to RSS feeds
1. Set up an account with an RSS reader. This is generally free and takes only a few minutes. Or, if using Firefox or Internet Explorer 7, simply click on the RSS icon in the upper right corner of your Internet browser. A drop down menu will show feeds available. Click on the item(s) of interest to subscribe, similar to adding a "favorite" Web site link, in your Internet browser.
2. Generally, if using an RSS reader you can just click on the "subscribe" button next to the feed(s) above that you are interested in and then select your RSS reader from the list. However, depending on how you choose to view RSS feeds, steps for subscribing may vary slightly. You can also use your RSS reader's "add or find feed" feature and then copy and paste the .xml Web address of the selected feed into the chosen RSS reader.
3. Check your feed reader or live bookmark to see links to topic-specific information recently posted on one of the NCTCOG Transportation Department Web pages.
