On December 11, 2014, the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) approved a resolution supporting the adoption and implementation of a revised Clean Fleet Policy by entities with fleet operations in the nonattainment area. The revised policy outlines goals and provides workable, cost-effective solutions to reduce emissions from local fleets and support regional efforts to attain federal air quality standards.
As of May 2018, 67 entities have adopted the revised Clean Fleet Policy. Adoption ensures eligibility for clean vehicle funding made available through the RTC and fleet recognition from the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities coalition. Also, the Clean Fleet Policy is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan Policy bundle initiative which allows for an offset of local funds in federal transportation projects.
Revised Clean Fleet Policy Provisions
- Reduce fleet emissions, including implementation of an idle-reduction policy or Standard Operating Procedure.
- Reduce overall fuel consumption.
- Partner with the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities (DFWCC) and North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).
- Ensure fleet personnel are familiar with and able to implement air quality and petroleum reduction goals.
- Entities wishing to apply for clean vehicle funding made available by the RTC must adopt the revised Clean Fleet Policy in order to be eligible.
- Adoption may allow for an offset of local funds in federal transportation projects as part of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan Policy bundle initiative.
