NCTCOG delays action on
Mobility 2035 amendment
Regional Transportation Council consideration of the full amendment to Mobility 2035 - 2013 Update will be delayed until November 13, 2014.
The RTC had originally been expected to consider the amendment at its meeting in October, but postponing a decision will allow more time for the RTC to review public comments about the Blacklands Corridor Feasibility Study, following that study’s public meeting September 22. More than 1,200 attended the meeting, almost all expressing concerns about a potential toll road. Residents also submitted written comments in advance of the October 2 deadline for input.
The feasibility study is examining transportation needs in the area stretching from Garland to Greenville that includes parts of Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, and Hunt counties. At the September 22 public meeting, planners recommended a combination of strategies to help meet local and regional transportation needs in the area based on study findings and public involvement since July 2013. New and widened arterials, a new freeway/tollway, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and IH 30 bottleneck improvements were among the recommendations.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments has received hundreds of written comments and surveys about the proposed toll road, known as the Northeast Gateway, in addition to the oral comments at the meeting. NCTCOG staff is compiling public input, which will be provided to the RTC before it considers long-range transportation plan changes. The deadline to provide comments on the feasibility study is October 2. Staff will then consider transportation options for RTC consideration.
