Cotton Belt Corridor Innovative Finance Initiative |
DART and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (FWTA) have requested the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) and North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) take the lead role in developing innovative financial mechanisms and revenue streams to implement passenger rail service in the Corridor. The Innovative Finance Initiative (iFi) will investigate and analyze a long list of possible funding sources for the Cotton Belt Corridor. The iFi will be divided into 2 primary phases. Phase One will be the identification of a recommended funding strategy. Phase Two will focus on developing a project financing plan. The Cotton Belt Corridor is an approximately 62-mile rail corridor from Sycamore School Road in Southwest Fort Worth to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Red Line Light Rail Corridor. The Corridor passes through portions of Tarrant, Dallas, and Collin Counties and is recommended for passenger rail service in the long-range transportation plan for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area.
