Idling Restrictions in North Central Texas

Ten counties in North Central Texas currently violate the federal air quality standard for the pollutant ozone. To meet these standards, the region must address major contributing factors to emissions from vehicles. The region’s goal is to come into compliance for ozone as early as possible to ensure the greatest quality of life for all residents in the area.

As part of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) 1997 8-hour Ozone Attainment Demonstration State Implementation Plan (SIP), NCTCOG is committed to encouraging the adoption and enforcement of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) State Idling Rule.  As of May 2014, 25 cities and 4 counties in the North Central Texas nonattainment area have committed to implementing this initiative.
